Microsoft ended standard support for Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. That means Windows 10 PCs may continue to operate, but they no longer receive the normal security updates, bug fixes, or technical support that businesses previously relied on.
For organizations, continuing to use unsupported Windows 10 computers can create several concerns:
- Security exposure: Newly discovered Windows vulnerabilities may remain unpatched, increasing the risk of malware, ransomware, and unauthorized access.
- Compliance concerns: Organizations subject to cybersecurity or regulatory requirements may have difficulty meeting standards when unsupported operating systems remain in use.
- Software compatibility: Over time, software vendors and hardware manufacturers can discontinue Windows 10 support, creating compatibility and reliability problems.
- Cyber insurance: Insurers may expect businesses to maintain supported and regularly patched operating systems as part of their security controls.

For most businesses, the appropriate next step is to identify all remaining Windows 10 computers, determine which can be upgraded to Windows 11, replace hardware that doesn’t meet Windows 11 requirements, and use ESU selectively where an immediate upgrade isn’t practical.
