Why it matters

One report that answers your customers' security questions.

SOC 2 is an attestation framework from the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA). An independent CPA firm examines your controls against the Trust Services Criteria and issues a report you can share with customers and prospects, usually under NDA.

Often a condition of the deal

Enterprise buyers and their procurement teams commonly ask for a current SOC 2 report before they sign, and renewals can depend on it too.

Type 1 or Type 2

A Type 1 report checks that your controls are designed properly on a single date. A Type 2 report tests whether they operated effectively over an observation period, often 6 to 12 months.

An auditor's opinion, not a badge

SOC 2 is not a pass-or-fail certification. Exceptions found during testing appear in the report your customers read, so controls need to work every day.

The requirements

What the Trust Services Criteria expect

Security (required)

Protection against unauthorized access. These Common Criteria are part of every SOC 2 report.

Confidentiality

Information designated as confidential is protected from collection to disposal.

Processing integrity

System processing that is complete, valid, accurate and timely.

Privacy

Personal information collected, used, kept and disposed of as you have committed.

Access and change management

MFA enforced, user access reviewed, and system changes approved and tested.

Risk and vendor management

Regular risk assessments and oversight of the vendors that touch your data.

Monitoring and incident response

Security events detected and logged, and a documented, tested response plan.

Getting started

Four steps to your SOC 2 report

1

Scoping call

We learn what you sell, what customers ask for and which systems hold their data.

2

Readiness assessment

Findings mapped to the Trust Services Criteria.

3

Remediation

A prioritized plan with owners, then controls put in place.

4

Audit and beyond

Audit support, then controls maintained year-round for every renewal.

Questions

Common SOC 2 questions

Do we need Type 1 or Type 2?

Many enterprise buyers expect a Type 2. A Type 1 can be a faster first step that helps unblock deals while your Type 2 observation period runs.

Which Trust Services Criteria should we include?

Security is required in every SOC 2 report. Add Availability, Confidentiality, Processing Integrity or Privacy only when they match commitments you make to customers, since each one adds scope and cost.

Can Tech Hero issue our SOC 2 report?

No. Only a licensed CPA firm can perform the examination and issue the report. We prepare your environment, documentation and evidence, and work alongside the auditor you choose.

How long does SOC 2 take?

It depends on your environment and how many gaps we find. Readiness and remediation often take a few months, and a Type 2 adds the observation period on top. The readiness assessment gives you a realistic timeline.
